Software Engineer, DevOps/Compliance

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced software engineer to take ownership over the technical and regulatory infrastructure that holds a healthcare company together. You will be traversing over various parts of a modern stack to ensure the success of your fellow developers.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Maintain and extend our multi-region infrastructure that is deployed on Amazon Web Services via Terraform
  • Oversee and improve the durability and uptime of our containerized services which is orchestrated using Rancher
  • Continuously improve our CI/CD process
  • Build automation and internal tools to improve your own workflow and that of your fellow developers
  • Provide infrastructure support for resource-intensive machine learning processes
  • Understand and stay updated with technical requirements related to healthcare regulations, in collaboration with privacy and security consultants
  • Write policies and design systems to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of our PHI (Personal Health Information) to meet compliance requirements
  • Guide and collaborate with other developers to understand their productivity needs and help them be successful

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of industry experience in software engineering. Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Experience working with and/or managing cloud infrastructure (AWS), SQL and NoSQL databases (MySQL and DynamoDb, respectively), web servers (EC2), asynchronous inter-service communication (SQS)
  • Being a strong generalist developer who is comfortable with multiple languages (such as Python and Javascript) and frameworks
  • Experience in, and/or healthy respect for, the application of security and privacy best practices in software design
  • A desire to learn. We don’t expect everyone to be fully familiar with our stack
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, startup environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with web development best practices; such as load balancing, web servers and so forth
  • Experience with Docker and container orchestration
  • Experience with MySQL and the configuration thereof
  • Experience with CI/CD tools, specifically CircleCI and AWS CodeBuild
  • Experience with Terraform and Packer
  • Experience with working with task queues and asynchronous processing in general
  • Interest in healthcare and in supporting software to improve care and quality of life in older adults
