Job Summary

We are looking for an individual to lead Winterlight’s legal activities from commercial contracts to privacy and compliance. This role will work closely with our external counsel to manage Winterlight’s legal affairs and oversee the activities of the privacy team. This person will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Review and revise commercial contracts from multinational pharmaceutical companies and other life science companies
  • Manage contract negotiations with commercial partners
  • Review and revise data transfer agreements and material transfer agreements created by academic institutions and pharmaceutical companies
  • Lead IP discussions with outside counsel and work internally on strategy and implementation
  • Work with outside counsel when agreements require additional expertise
  • Draft and review contracts and forms, such as user agreements and consent forms
  • Acting as Chief Privacy and Security Officer, oversee, prioritize, and approve the activities of the privacy team
  • Working with the privacy team, lead annual review of our internal privacy and security policy suite
  • Review and enhance our audit processes to ensure regulatory compliance and compliance with internal policies
  • Improve and streamline the current privacy and security program in accordance with industry standards and Winterlight’s operational requirements
  • Monitor company data management practices and perform risk assessments on new data flows

Required Qualifications

  • A law degree from a US or Canadian university
  • Have negotiated software licensing agreements
  • Have negotiated life science agreements
  • A minimum of 2 - 3 years of practical experience that includes reviewing commercial contracts
  • An eagerness to lead privacy and security within Winterlight Labs
  • Familiarity with international privacy and security regulations
  • Demonstrable understanding of risk management best practices
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, startup environment
